Under the watchful and experienced eye of our Dean of International Students, each international student is assigned an individual advisor to assist with course selection, time management, and school transition. Although Staten Island Academy is a day school, we are proud to have forged relationships with respected agencies who recommend residential housing options.

New to the New York metropolitan area, Yunchiahn C. Sena is excited to join the Staten Island Academy community as a Mandarin Teacher. She earned her PhD in Chinese Art History from the University of Chicago and has dedicated her career to sharing the richness of Chinese language, history, and culture with students. With nineteen years of teaching experience in independent schools, public schools, and higher education, she is passionate about creating student-centered classrooms where students build confidence, develop curiosity, and make meaningful connections with the world.
Drawing on her interdisciplinary background in language, history, art, and culture, Ms. Sena designs engaging lessons that bring authentic cultural perspectives into language learning. She also enjoys organizing cultural events and collaborating with colleagues to foster a vibrant school community. She believes that learning a language is about building bridges between people and cultures, and that curiosity, empathy, and meaningful communication are at the heart of a great education. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, listening to music, and watching films—especially historical documentaries.

We are pleased this year to announce that international students now have the option of living in a nearby residence, just steps from the campus. Located in one of the most desirable and exclusive communities in Staten Island, the student residence is managed by Apex International Education Partners, LLC. This premium living experience provides students with adult supervision, secure housing, and safe transportation as needed, while fostering independence, responsibility and time management, within walking distance from campus.
